Troubleshooting SSL Certificate Issues

"Your connection is not private"

Symptom: The browser blocks the HTTPS address of Atlas with a security warning.

Solution: The device does not trust the Atlas certificate yet. Install it with the steps for the device:

• Windows
• macOS
• iPhone and iPad
• Android

Certificate Stops Working After an Address Change

Symptom: Security warnings appear on devices where the certificate worked before, after the IP address of the host computer changed.

Cause: The certificate lists the addresses of the host computer it was issued for, and the new address is not among them.

Solutions:

1. In Dermi Atlas Manager, select Restart in the Atlas Control card. At that start, Atlas Manager adds the current address and issues a new certificate. Certificate Details on the SSL Certificate card then lists the new address under IP Addresses.
2. Install the new certificate on every device, as described in SSL Certificate Setup for HTTPS Access.
3. Give the host computer a fixed address so this does not recur: see Configuring a Static IP Address for Dermi Atlas Professional.

Certificate Expired or Expiring Soon

Symptom: The SSL Certificate card on the Atlas Status page reads Certificate Expired ("Regenerate it and reinstall it on each device") or Expiring Soon with the days remaining.

Solution:

1. Expand Certificate Details on the SSL Certificate card and select Schedule on the Certificate Regeneration row.
2. In the Regenerate Certificate? drawer, type REGENERATE CERTIFICATE and select Schedule Regeneration. The row then reads "Scheduled for next restart", and Cancel Regeneration withdraws it until then.
3. Select Restart in the Atlas Control card. The new certificate is created at that restart, and the previous one stops working.
4. Install the new certificate on every device that uses Atlas.

SSL Certificate Card Shows No Status

• Not Available Yet ("Atlas is still starting"): wait until Atlas has started; the status then appears.
• Status Unknown ("Refresh to check again"): select the refresh button on the card. If the status stays unknown, select Restart in the Atlas Control card.

iOS: "Not Trusted" After Installing

Symptom: The certificate profile is installed, but Safari still warns that the connection is not secure.

Solution: Full trust has not been turned on. Go to Settings => General => About => Certificate Trust Settings and, under "Enable full trust for root certificates", turn on the switch for dermi-atlas.local.
