12Questions

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about using Dermi Atlas Professional in your practice. Need help finding an answer? Reach out to our support team.

After deployment via Dermi Atlas Manager, access Dermi Atlas Professional through your web browser on any device connected to your local network. Setup provides both an HTTPS (encrypted) and an HTTP address, with encryption enabled through self-signed certificates managed by Atlas Manager. You can also install Dermi Atlas Professional so that it opens as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on any device.

Yes. Dermi Atlas Professional features a responsive design that supports devices from smartphones to tablets to desktop computers. Access the full platform from any device connected to your local network using a modern web browser. For iPhone and iPad, the free Dermi Atlas Companion app connects to your Atlas Professional server on the local network and adds native, reference-aligned camera capture alongside the full Atlas workspace.

Dermi Atlas Professional continues functioning normally without internet connectivity. All patient data, images, and features remain fully accessible on your local network. Internet is only required for periodic license verification and optional software updates.

Yes. Every clinical record on a Dermi Atlas Professional deployment belongs to the practice's team, and every member works from the same patient list. Each person keeps their own login, password, and optional two-factor authentication, and every action is recorded in the activity log under the person who performed it. Patients can be assigned to members, and the Patient Database preference opens the list on My Patients or All Patients.

Both account types capture images, create patients, add entries and notes, annotate, compare, and search the shared patient list. Clinician accounts additionally cover export and external sharing, deletion and recovery of records, Deleted Records, patient merge and identity edits, and original-resolution image downloads. The account type is chosen when a member is invited and can be changed later from the Dermi Portal.

The license owner invites a member from the Dermi Portal by email address and account type. The invitee receives a single-use claim code, opens the Atlas sign-in page on the practice network, follows Claim invitation, and sets their username, name, and password. Every account starts from an invitation, and membership changes reach the deployment at its next check-in. Atlas Manager can disable or re-enable an account locally.

Images are stored in each patient's Image Pool with automatic grouping by upload date. You can add tags by condition, body location, and treatment phase, as well as captions. Images are presented in consistent date order, in card or list view, and can be selected into Entries for comparisons and documentation. All images maintain their original quality.

Dermi Atlas Professional focuses on documentation integrity rather than image editing. You can rotate images, and background removal capabilities are in development. For other editing needs, process images externally before uploading to maintain clear clinical documentation provenance.

All comparison configurations save automatically, including image positioning, opacity settings, layer order, and layout choices. When you return to a comparison, everything appears exactly as configured. This persistent state keeps documentation consistent across sessions.

Automatic alignment uses computer vision to match the same anatomical features across images and calculate how each one should be positioned. When activated with the align button in a split or overlay comparison, images are repositioned so that corresponding features line up precisely. All alignment processing runs locally on your infrastructure. The original positioning can be restored, and alignment state persists automatically with the comparison.

The Image Pool is a patient's complete photo archive where all images are uploaded and organized chronologically. Entries are focused documentation units where you select specific images from the Image Pool, create split or overlay comparisons, add clinical notes, and generate formatted reports. Think of the Image Pool as your archive and Entries as your clinical documentation.

Yes. You maintain complete control over your data at all times. Download individual images in full quality, export Image Pools and Entries as formatted PDFs, or export complete patient reports. Your data stays in standard formats and can be archived or migrated as needed.

Consent management is configurable to match your practice requirements. The enforcement level is set once for the account as Disabled, Advisory, or Required, and the Required level blocks image uploads for a patient until consent is recorded. Supported consent types include digital consent within Dermi Atlas (patient confirmation and name entry) and external verification (verbal, written, or other documented methods). All consent actions are logged and can be revoked and re-obtained as needed.

Dermi Atlas Professional offers multiple export options. Individual images can be downloaded in full quality, with or without annotations. Comparisons and single images export through Custom Export, with framing presets, themes, date labels, and your practice logo, and comparisons also save in one tap with Quick Export. Entries, Image Pools, patient details, and complete patient reports can all be exported as formatted letter-sized PDFs ready for printing or EMR import. All exports are logged based on your configuration.

Dermi Atlas Professional supports organizing and comparing dermoscopy photographs alongside standard clinical images. Dermoscopy images can be uploaded to a patient's Image Pool, organized chronologically and by tags such as body location and condition, and compared using split and overlay views with automatic alignment. This allows longitudinal comparison of dermoscopic photographs over time. All dermoscopy images are stored locally on your infrastructure at full resolution.

Treatment progress tracking in Dermi Atlas Professional is built around chronological image organization and before/after comparisons. Images uploaded to a patient's Image Pool are automatically grouped by upload date, and can be tagged by condition, body location, and treatment phase. Selected images can be organized into Entries where split and overlay comparisons with automatic alignment allow precise visualization of changes over time. Comparison configurations save automatically, ensuring consistent documentation across sessions.

Yes. After initial deployment via Dermi Atlas Manager, Dermi Atlas Professional runs entirely on your local network and does not require an internet connection for any clinical operations. Image uploads, patient management, comparisons, and exports all function without connectivity. Internet is only needed for periodic license verification and optional software updates. This offline-capable architecture ensures clinical workflows continue without interruption during internet outages.

Dermi Atlas is built by Dermi Inc., an independent software company headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Dermi Atlas is a clinical documentation platform that med spas, aesthetic clinics, plastic surgery, and dermatology practices use to document skin conditions and track treatment progress with photography. Development, support, and assisted setup are all provided directly by the Dermi team.
