Quick Start Guide: Set Up Dermi Atlas in 30 to 45 Minutes

Overview

This guide walks through the complete setup process for Dermi Atlas Professional, from creating a Dermi Cloud Services account to documenting the first patient. By the end of this guide, a fully functional clinical imaging system will be running on the local network.

Estimated time: 30 to 45 minutes (depending on internet speed and familiarity with the process)

Prerequisites

Before beginning, ensure the following are available:

• A computer running Windows 10/11 (64-bit), macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later on Apple Silicon (Intel Macs are not supported), or Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+ (64-bit)
• At least 4GB of RAM (8GB or more recommended)
• At least 20GB of available storage
• Administrator privileges on the computer
• A stable internet connection
• An email address for account registration

Step 1: Create a Dermi Cloud Services Account

Dermi Portal is where the subscription and licenses are managed and the Cloud Demo is accessed.

1. Navigate to portal.dermi.ai in a web browser.
2. Select Sign up to open the registration page.
3. Enter the email address to be used for the Dermi Cloud Services account.
4. Select the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy checkboxes below the email field. The Continue button stays enabled while either box is clear, and submitting without both is refused with "Please accept all legal agreements to continue".
5. Select Continue.
6. Check the inbox for an email from notification@dermi.ai. If it does not appear, check the spam folder.
7. Click the link in the email to continue setup. Note that this link expires in one hour.
8. On the account setup page, enter a username (2 to 16 characters, using lowercase letters, digits, and underscores only), a first name or nickname (letters only, up to 64 characters), and a password. These can be changed later if needed.
9. Submit the form to complete account creation.

A Dermi Cloud Services account is now available.

Step 2: Start a Free Trial

1. Sign in to portal.dermi.ai with the new credentials.
2. The Overview tab loads, displaying the subscription status and license information.
3. Click Start Free Trial.
4. A redirect to Stripe follows for entering payment details. The first charge falls at the end of the 30-day free trial.
5. Complete the Stripe setup and return to Dermi Portal.
6. The trial is now active. The Overview tab displays the current plan details and license usage (0/1 active licenses).

Step 3: Generate a License Key

1. In the Overview tab, scroll down to the license section.
2. Click Generate New License.
3. A 20-character alphanumeric license key will be generated (for example, 422G L6NP 2BLF AK7L 9X5J).
4. Use the visibility toggle to view the key and the copy button to copy it to the clipboard.

Keep this key available for the Dermi Atlas Manager setup process.

Step 4: Download and Install Dermi Atlas Manager

Dermi Atlas Manager is the desktop application used to deploy and manage Dermi Atlas Professional.

1. Open the Downloads page in Dermi Portal and locate the current Dermi Atlas Manager release.
2. Download the appropriate installer for the operating system.
3. Run the installer and follow the prompts to install Dermi Atlas Manager.

Step 5: Install and Configure Docker

Dermi Atlas Professional runs inside Docker containers, and Docker 28.0.0 or later is required. If Docker is not already installed, install it now.

For Windows and macOS:
Download and install Docker Desktop from docker.com.

For Linux:
Install Docker Engine from the distribution's package repository. See Installing Dermi Atlas Manager on Linux for the Ubuntu and Debian steps.

Configuration Checklist:

• Enable Start Docker Desktop when you sign in to your computer in Docker Settings => General.
• Confirm the computer has at least 4GB of system RAM, with 8GB or more recommended. The requirement check measures total system RAM rather than the memory allocated to Docker Desktop.
• Set Disk Usage Limit to at least 20GB in Docker Settings => Resources, with 100GB or more recommended so that images, volumes, and stored photographs have room to grow.

Step 6: Complete Dermi Atlas Manager Setup

1. Launch Dermi Atlas Manager. It will perform an automatic initial setup.
2. On the License step, enter the license key generated in Step 3. Dermi Atlas Manager validates the key before continuing.
3. On the Requirements step, Dermi Atlas Manager checks the system dependencies, including Docker 28.0.0 or later.
4. On the Options step, select Fresh Installation, accept the End User License Agreement, and click Start Installation.
5. Wait for the installation to complete. A fresh installation typically takes under 10 minutes.
6. Set the Admin Passphrase when Dermi Atlas Manager asks for it, then save the one-time recovery phrase it shows. The passphrase protects the Administration area and never leaves the practice's computer. See Atlas Manager Administration.

Important: Do not close Dermi Atlas Manager or restart the computer during installation.

Step 7: Access Dermi Atlas Professional

Once installation is complete, Dermi Atlas Manager will display the Atlas Status page.

1. Locate the Atlas Access section.
2. Click Open App or enter the displayed HTTP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.100:15015) in any browser on the local network.

Step 8: Invite and Claim the First Account

Accounts on a Dermi Atlas Professional deployment are separate from the Dermi Cloud Services account and are created by invitation. The license owner invites each team member from Dermi Portal, and the invitee claims the invitation on the practice network. The first account is created the same way as every later one, and the owner normally invites themselves first.

In Dermi Portal:

1. Sign in to portal.dermi.ai and open the license for this deployment.
2. Select Invite Member and enter the email address for the new account.
3. Choose the Account Type. Clinician grants full access, including export, sharing, deletion, and recovery; Assistant covers documentation and capture.
4. Send the invitation. A single-use claim code, valid for 24 hours, is emailed to that address.

In Dermi Atlas Professional, on the practice network:

1. Open Dermi Atlas Professional in a browser and select Claim invitation on the sign-in page.
2. Enter the Email Address the invitation was sent to and the Claim Code from the email.
3. Set a Username (2 to 16 characters, using lowercase letters, digits, and underscores only), a First Name or nickname (letters only, up to 64 characters), and a Password.
4. Accept the End User License Agreement and select Claim Invitation. The account is created on the deployment and is ready to sign in.

Step 9: Configure HTTPS (Optional)

Configuring HTTPS for secure, encrypted connections is recommended.

1. In Dermi Atlas Manager, navigate to the SSL Certificate section.
2. Click Download to save the certificate file.
3. Install this certificate on every device (phones, tablets, laptops) that will access Dermi Atlas Professional.
