Good to know

Important considerations

Backup process

Atlas temporarily shuts down during backup to ensure data consistency. Duration depends on deployment size, typically several minutes. The system automatically restarts when complete.

Backup security

Backups are not encrypted by default. Configure your own encryption at the system or disk level if required for your compliance needs.

Backup storage

Backups are initially created on the same system. Copy completed backups to external storage for off-site protection. Automated backup scheduling is in development.

Robust disaster recovery, protecting clinical documentation against hardware failure and migration.

04Administration

Local administration, behind a passphrase

An admin passphrase set at first launch protects the Administration area, the deployment-wide settings, and the actions that cannot be undone. It never leaves the practice's computer.

Inside the Administration area

User Accounts

The team as the deployment mirrors it, with Disable and Enable for any member. Patient records and the activity log are kept.

Sync Now

Checks in with the Dermi Portal immediately, so a membership change applies without waiting for the next scheduled check-in.

Administration Activity

Every sign-in and administrative action on the deployment, newest first. An operator name entered at unlock is recorded on Atlas Manager actions.

Deployment-wide settings

Audit logging, the data deletion policy, and the retention period for deleted records, applied to the whole deployment.

Member List Recovery

Receives the member list from the Dermi Portal again when Dermi support asks for it. Accounts and patient records are not changed.

Deployment Purge

Permanently deletes every patient record and image while keeping accounts, the license, and settings. The passphrase and a typed confirmation are required.

Admin passphrase

ForgottenOne-time recovery phrase

The passphrase protects deployment settings and destructive actions, while every member keeps signing in to Atlas with their own login.

06Questions

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about deploying and managing Dermi Atlas Professional. Need help finding an answer? Reach out to our support team.

No. Dermi Atlas Manager is designed for self-service deployment without requiring technical expertise. The setup wizard guides you through each step, automatically checks dependencies, and handles the technical complexity. If you would rather not do the setup yourself, assisted setup is included at no charge; our team confirms the details with you beforehand and completes the deployment with you over a remote session on a computer that meets the system requirements.

Dermi Atlas Manager automatically generates self-signed SSL certificates during initial setup, enabling HTTPS and secure WebSocket (WSS) connections. On each system startup, Atlas Manager checks if your server's IP address has changed. If a change is detected, certificate regeneration is automatically scheduled for the next restart. You can also manually schedule a certificate regeneration through the Manager interface if needed. After any certificate regeneration, you will need to download and reinstall the new certificate on all client devices that access Atlas, including iPhones and iPads running Atlas Companion, which surfaces the changed certificate for review before reconnecting.

Dermi Atlas Manager checks for Docker during initial setup and provides clear guidance on installing Docker Desktop (Windows/macOS) or Docker Engine (Linux). The setup process will not proceed until Docker is properly installed and running.

Backup frequency depends on your practice volume and risk tolerance. For active practices capturing images daily, weekly backups are recommended. During periods of high activity or before system updates, create additional backups. Currently, backups are initiated manually through Dermi Atlas Manager. Automated backup scheduling is in development.

Yes. Create a backup using Dermi Atlas Manager, copy the backup file to your new system, install Dermi Atlas Manager on the new computer, and restore from the backup. Your deployment will be fully restored including all data, configurations, user accounts, and the team member list. Backups are cross-platform compatible, so you can create on macOS and restore on Windows, or any other combination. Note that you will need to regenerate SSL certificates and reinstall them on client devices after migration.

Complete backups include all patient data, images, entries, user accounts, the team member list, system configurations, activity logs, tags, and every other aspect of your Dermi Atlas Professional deployment. Nothing is excluded. Backups are verified for integrity at multiple stages.

Dermi Atlas Manager displays all verification links generated by Dermi Atlas Professional in a dedicated panel. You can copy or open these links directly from the Manager without needing email delivery, and toggle between HTTP and HTTPS formats. Accounts themselves are created by claiming a Dermi Portal invitation, so these links cover what follows: password recovery, email and two-factor changes, and account deletion. This keeps every member's access in offline deployments or when email configuration is unavailable.

Yes, this is the typical deployment scenario. Dermi Atlas Manager runs as a desktop application on your server computer and manages the Dermi Atlas Professional deployment on that same system. You can then access Dermi Atlas Professional from other devices on your local network while the Manager runs on the server.

When you initiate a backup, Dermi Atlas Professional pauses briefly so the backup is an exact snapshot. The complete system state is captured and verified, and Dermi Atlas Professional restarts on its own once the backup completes. The process typically takes several minutes depending on data volume.

Backups are not encrypted by default. If encryption is required for your compliance needs, you can configure your own encryption at the system or disk level. Backups are initially created on the same system where Dermi Atlas is installed. We recommend copying completed backups to external storage for off-site protection.

The admin passphrase is set the first time Dermi Atlas Manager launches and protects the Administration area: the User Accounts card, deployment-wide settings such as audit logging and the data deletion policy, and destructive actions such as the deployment purge. It never leaves the practice's computer. A one-time recovery phrase shown at setup resets a forgotten passphrase, and Change Passphrase is available from the Administration area. Every team member keeps signing in to Atlas with their own login.

The purge permanently deletes every patient with their entries, images, zones, lesions, and Full Body sessions, along with tags, Full Body templates, records in Deleted Records, every stored image and file, and the clinical activity log. It keeps user accounts and their sign-in, the license, the deployment settings, and the sign-in and administration activity log. The admin passphrase and a typed confirmation are required before it starts, a backup can be created first, and the purge cannot be undone.

No. Invitations, account types, seats, and billing are managed by the license owner in the Dermi Portal, and the deployment applies membership changes at its next check-in. Dermi Atlas Manager administers the deployment locally: the User Accounts card mirrors the team, lets you disable or re-enable an account immediately, and Sync Now checks in with the portal on demand.
