Dermi Atlas Professional runs on one computer at the practice, the host computer, where Dermi Atlas Manager installs and runs it. Other devices open Atlas in a web browser over the practice network. The Requirements step of the Atlas Manager installer checks the minimums below before Atlas is installed, and each row shows the value it found.
Host Computer
- Windows: Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, on an Intel or AMD (x64) processor. Windows on ARM computers are not supported.
- macOS: macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon. Intel Macs are not supported.
- Linux: Ubuntu 22.04 or later, Debian 12 or later, or a distribution based on them with glibc 2.35 or later (for example Linux Mint 21 or Pop!_OS 22.04), on an x64 processor.
Atlas is available to other devices only while the host computer is on and awake, so a computer that stays on during practice hours is the right choice.
Memory and Disk Space
The Requirements step checks three values:
- Memory: 4 GB of RAM at minimum. 8 GB or more is recommended, and 16 GB when the computer also runs other practice software.
- Disk Space: 20 GB free on the drive that holds the Atlas Manager data. 100 GB or more is recommended, because photos and backups grow over time. On macOS, space that macOS can free on demand counts as free.
- Docker Disk Space: 12 GB free on the disk Docker uses. When Docker does not report its disk size, the row reads Not reported and does not block the installation. On Docker Desktop, the disk size limit is raised in Docker Desktop settings under Resources.
Backups are kept on the Atlas Manager data drive; Backing Up and Restoring Dermi Atlas Professional explains how much space a backup needs.
Software
- Docker: Docker Engine 28.0.0 or later. On Windows and macOS it comes with Docker Desktop; on Linux, Docker Engine is installed directly. See Installing Docker for Dermi Atlas Professional.
- Atlas Manager: The Atlas Manager Version row checks that the installed Atlas Manager supports the Atlas release. An outdated Atlas Manager shows Atlas Manager Update Required with an update action.
- Web browser: A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari on each device; see Browser Compatibility and PWA Support.
Network
- Practice network: The host computer and every device that opens Atlas join the same local network, and the network lets devices reach each other by IP address. Guest networks that isolate devices from one another do not work. A wired connection is recommended for the host computer.
- Ports: Atlas uses five TCP ports on the host computer. Atlas Manager picks another port when a default is busy and always shows the ports in use on the Atlas Access card. The port list and firewall steps are in Firewall Configuration for Dermi Atlas Professional.
- Static IP address: Recommended for the host computer, so that device bookmarks and the HTTPS certificate stay valid. See Configuring a Static IP Address for Dermi Atlas Professional.
- Internet access: Required on the host computer to register Atlas Manager on first launch, activate the license, and install, update, or restore Atlas. While Atlas runs, it checks its license with Dermi regularly; without a connection it keeps working for seven days, until a license check is required.
